Welcome from the lunch room!
It's hard to believe we have already completed the first full month of school! It has been fun getting to know your kids, so many new faces!
As we start a new year, we are continuing to teach our kids about voice levels in the lunch room. We talk about what your voice should sound like if you were in a restaurant. The kids are doing pretty good! You should be very proud.
We have three lunches, each 20 minutes long. We have found that if the kids get in and get settled this is plenty of time to eat. If you see your child coming home with food in their lunchbox, I would encourage you to have a conversation with them. Often I'm finding they don't like certain foods and want to just throw them away. I try to get them to take it home so you can see what they are eating and what they are wanting to throw out. I would also like to encourage you to pack a bottle of water in your students lunch as they are just coming in from recess and are often very thirsty. There are no drinking fountains in the lunch room and I hesitate sending them to the gym as that takes away from time spent eating. They are of course always welcome to buy a milk or juice but often just ask me for water. Coming up with creative healthy food to pack in cold lunches can be challenging, I know, I have 10 kids of my own! I would love to share some ideas with you here and in our newsletters. In the meantime you can email me.
This is my 10th year at Cougar Valley and I just wanted to say welcome to the new families and welcome back to our returning families. Please feel free to come and have lunch with your student anytime your available. Birthday treats are welcome but ask that you keep them to "small bites'. A cookie or small cupcake. Looking foreword to a wonderful year with your terrific kids!

Your Cougar Valley "lunch lady"
We appreciate all our amazing staff at CVE! We are having a Staff Appreciation Luncheon for them on Wednesday, October 18th. The theme this month is a Italian Cuisine. If you'd like to help, or contribute items, please follow this link to sign up. Thank you!
The event will be held on Wednesday, October 18th from 10:30 to 1:00 in the staff lounge. We will need parents to send in food items. Also, we need volunteers to help set up, serve, and clean up at this event. The food items need to be brought into the school before school on the day of the luncheon. Your child may bring the items in or you may drop them off. Click the link below to sign up.
Check out our NEW schedule for all PTA Meetings throughout the year.
Please try and have your children wear proper tennis shoes on PE days. Sandals, boots and slip on shoes make running and playing difficult as well as unsafe for all in the gym. Kids are allowed to bring water bottles to the gym to help stay hydrated. If your child needs to be excused specifically from PE due to an injury or illness, please send your child with a note or send an email to Audrey Milano. Thanks for your help with these reminders.
Also, we are always looking for gently used tennis shoes of various kid sizes to use as “loaners” when kids might forget safe shoes on PE days. If you have some pairs that do not fit anymore, the gym would be happy to take them off your hands! Thank you in advance for your donations!
Cougar Valley Pumpkin Run – Tuesday, October 31 at 1:00pm
It’s time for the annual traditon of Cougar Valley’s Pumpkin Run with some added flair! All students will partcipate in a fun run around the school to support good health during a time of sweets and treats.
We’re looking for volunteers to pop popcorn, help set up the course and encourage the kids along their run. On the day of the run, popcorn volunteers will be needed to be at school early at 8:00 am.
Run course volunteers will need to be at the school at 12:15pm for instructions. Please remember that volunteers must be approved with district paperwork. If you need an application, they are available in the office—approval usually takes 2-3 days.
If you’re interested in volunteering for this event, please email our PTA president and if you have questions regarding the event please feel free to email Audrey Milano.
We look forward to seeing you on October 31!
